Thompson.—At Pembina, September 20th at 11:55 p. m. Amelia Elizabeth, beloved wife of George Thompson, aged 56 years and six months. Mrs. Thompson was one of the old residents of this city and a very large circle of friends mourn her decease. While preeminently a home woman yet she was not unknown in charitable and church work where her assistance and cheer will be much missed by her fellow workers. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church and attentive to its ordinances and teachings.  In her home life she excelled as a home keeper and as a mother and wife.  “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” She was a kind neighbor and pleasant friend. What she was called to do she did with all her mind and strength. She acted well her part of life.  Her work was in her home, and while other work may sometimes be more prominent, yet no work is of more importance than that of her who rules the house kingdom. No greater encomium is given to any, than to say, she was a good wife and a good mother.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, and Stuart, Richard, Ralph and Alice her children, and the following brothers: William Peverly of Ardoch, N.D., Ralph Peverly of New York City, George Peverly of Philadelphia, John Peverly of Brockville, Ont., and Clavering Peverly of Montreal.

The funeral occurred on Sunday at 1 o’clock at the Presbyterian church.  The room was filled to the doors with friends assembled to pay their last respects. Rev. S. Acheson officiated and preached a very eloquent sermon and appropriate music was rendered by the choir and a long line of carriages followed the remains to the city cemetery where they were laid to rest.

Among the mourners beside the husband and children were her brother Ralph Peverly of Ardoch and her step son George Thompson conductor on the C.P.R. in Manitoba. The Pioneer Express September 27, 1901
