Jacob Hostetler, of Cando, was arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl and bound over to district court. Ward County Independent August 26, 1903

Beaten by Holdup Men

Cando, ND Sept 27, Charles Shepler was horribly beaten up by holdup men who attacked him while he was walking on a highway near Cando.  He was left by the side of the road unconscious, and had suffered many hours exposure before being found.  One of the suspected robbers, identified by Shepler has been captured but the others escaped.  Bismarck Tribune Sunday September 27, 1914
